I like the premise of "X-Men," and I've enjoyed both movies. At the same time, I'm not so knowledgeable about the series that I've developed an emotional attachment to any particular interpretation of the story, meaning I'd be pretty open to Joss's version. Beyond that, he's clearly shown himself to be very good at telling stories of young people blessed/cursed with extraordinary power and the responsibilities that go with them, with these stories serving as metaphors for adolescent growing pains. So he'd seem to be a good fit with "X-Men."

course that rumour about Joss doing the plot and Mamet writing is insane (though it did come from a former New X-Men artist) but more realistically it will be Joss on his own.

So if it all goes according to plan, he'll be writing for New X-Men, doing a sixth season of Angel and directing and writing for a Firefly movie. Busy man.
