Except 2). I don't care what the teenagers think.

Both Whedon and Cassaday aren't known for their timeliness. On Whedon's side, he was helming three television shows during the writing of Fray, but I'm just worried that he'll fall victim to Kevin Smith syndrome.

Fray was great, though, and once I have a spare $20, I'm going to buy the trade (even though I own the singles).

[> [> [> The feeling I got with Fray... -- Kuzibah, 08:28:22 01/16/04 Fri (12.175.117.195)

Wasn't that Whedon was dragging his heels, but that the actual production kept getting delayed. My impression was that Whedon delivered Fray complete. And for all Whedon's whining about being overworked, he strikes me as one of those creative types who likes to have a few irons in the fire at once.

That being said, it bugs me that they don't do additional print runs of comics, like they do with books. If issue #1 of Fray sells out in one day (which it did, at least in my area), do a second printing. And then do a larger run for issue #2. Otherwise, people who can't get to the comic shop until 7 PM (like me) because they aren't teenage boys miss out.

Sorry, I'm just still annoyed at the look I got when I asked "are you going to get more?" when told the shop had sold out its 5 issues of Fray #1.

[> [> [> [> Part of the delay was due to Karl Moline's Crossgen contract. -- Anthony, 15:37:06 01/16/04 Fri (68.192.121.29)

He was working on Route 666 (great book, btw) under a Crossgen-exclusive contract, with a clause that he'd be able to do Fray when the final scripts came in. I believe the story goes that Fray got behind between two and four months from Joss' end, and then Moline's contract prevented him from doing anything more than sporadic illustration on the final issues. (The same thing happened with Chris Weston and Ministry of Space, as it was late from the script end and Weston took on The Filth to pay the bills.)

However, ongoing comics are much, much more difficult scheduling than minis. It's one thing for Fray to be two or three months late on the writing end--it'll all come out eventually, and when it's collected no one's going to care if it was late. The schedule of an ongoing is not quite as forgiving.

Though, I think Joss is being given about a year's lead-time for the book, with rumors of Peter Milligan taking over in the interim. Though I sort of wish the Neil Gaiman rumor was true, if only out of morbid curiousity about how he'd approach the concept.
