Subject: Soo.....How was everyone's holiday?

It was fun for us this year...the first year in a long time there were toys to open. Even though Ian was just as happy playing with the wrapping paper, he really put us in the spirit of the season.

I am back to work Feb 1st. Ugh. Well, not really ugh. I am looking forward to going back, but I wish there were more hours in the day so I wouldn't have to give up time with Ian. I am going to be very sad when I have to leave him for the first full day at the sitter. How do you folks in the USA deal with such short mat leave?? I have been off for 11 months and I can't believe how quickly the time has gone.

Ian is going to the sitter today for a few hours....I am trying to ease him (and myself) into the routine.

I miss everyone. What are you all doing?

I like to call this his "Blue Steel" look a la Derek Zoolander...

SOOOOO cute!! those are adorable pictures. Has he thrown his first snowball yet?

And I'm hopelessly jealous of your maternity leave. The lucky ones here get like 3 months. And I had a friend who went back after 6 weeks. Yikes.

Maybe I should seriously look into this Canada migration thing.

I think this boy's parents will be able to retire early, as he clearly has a huge career as a model ahead of him. "Blue steel," indeed.

[> I had a great Christmas season. -- wwolfe, 11:07:14 01/11/05 Tue (161.149.63.107)

December was bathed in the glow of the London trip, so that made everything seem brighter. It was nice to have Christmas fall on a Saturday, since that gave everyone a day beforehand to shop and a day after to recuperate. As for Christmas itself, I had brunch at the home of the lead singer and piano player from my band, as always. Our piano player's two sons and their wives and kids were there, so it was a very warm and cozy place.

After food and gifts and some singing, I drove to the home of my now-retired boss, where I had dinner with his extended family - another long-standing tradition that I always enjoy.

Another thing that gave this Christmas an added shine was that I spent Christmas Eve working on an idea for a late gift; that was a lot of fun and definitely increased the quotient of comfort and joy.

Oh, and while I'm thinking of London - did I remember to send you the link to the pictures, along with my write-up? I know I *meant* to do it, but I can't remember if I actually *did* do it.

Good luck on the new job. As hard as it will be to leave him with the sitter, Ian will have exciting new adventures to tell you about - once he's talking, of course.

[> Excellent -- Nina, 08:36:34 01/12/05 Wed (12.175.117.195)

I had a pretty swinging Christmas season.

We took a long weekend in Vegas two weeks before with some friends. I finally got organized enough to send out a lot of gifts to people I always intended to, but was too disorganized to do (don't get used to it...) Did a lot of baking. Did the bulk of my shoppping on-line, so I only had to brave the malls *once,* and that was my sister's and my annual Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving) tradition, so it didn't really count. Wrote the sixth (SIXTH!) annual Christmas Cards fanfic series, which I should finally finish up this week.

The day itself, I actually had to come in to work for a few hours, then had a quiet dinner at home with Grim. It was a Hawaiian Christmas for me, as I got 3 surfing movies, a carved tiki, and a blue flowered shirts with surfboards and woodies on it.

New Year's, also quiet. Grim wasn't feeling well, so he went to bed early. Yep, last of the wild partiers, we are. But... I'm planning to extend the revelry through February. Xin nian yu kuai!

And you get 11 months?! Why can't I live in Canada?

Oh, the dangers of posting pre-caffiene.

And now we have a new puppy! He's adorable and sweet and bedevils Kirby every minute of the day. Teddy's a bichon frise - twelve weeks old this Sunday. Kirby, of course, is our eleven and a half *year* old bichon/Maltese mix. They're providing hours of comfort and joy.
