She thinks about the scent of the desert, the hot dry days, the freezing nights and the paths through the everchanging sands, passed down from mother to daughter and son. She remembers the sandstorm that killed all but her, leaving her unscathed to walk away. She closes her eyes and steps closer to the cliff edge.
