I would like to invite all interested youth civilians to attend this upcoming drill on August 18. This will be our first meeting of the youth group and lots of ideas and planning will be in order. For the sake of legal technicalities, I will say that the maximum age for this group will be 18. As for the minimum age, parents, that is up to you right now. I think we should draw the line at school age, as this is not a babysitting club, but a youth group. I understand the elementary aged members may be limited in their participation in planning, but I would like parents and youth to feel free to drop by the meeting at drill and add imput.
We have a great opportunity for living history at the upcoming drill. As I am sure some people have already heard, the 9th Texas Drill coincides with Old City Park's Back to School third Saturday event. I plan to have our youth group meeting in the School from 11:00 to 12:00. I encourage all youth to attend in period clothes, if possible, as this will be open to visitors. Prior to this meeting, at 10:00, and afterwards, from 1:00 to 3:30, we have the opportunity to reenact a school day. This will include things like games, lessons, spelling bees, and other school day activities. This will be a great opportunity for the youth members to perfect their own unique place in reenacting.
Questions? Email me at rebellady@livinghistorynet.com, or call me. Don't worry, I will be getting all this out via the phone tree after this weekend's meeting, so everyone should know the same info.
Have a great day!
