Well, here it is two years later and surely you have answered your own question by now, as I am sure the same question has been asked of you by many other nursing students. When I was in school many years ago I experienced and asked the same thing. Why wouldn't we be intimidated by the whole aspect of nursing, as you said it is other people's lives that we are dealing with, lives that have ultimately been placed in our hands. Not gonna' say that it gets easier to deal with and there are days that I still want to throw in the towel, but I know that when I go home, that I have given my all and done everything that was humanly possible in any given situation. After all, all of our lives sit in one person's hands, only he can take a life away. Enjoy your career and give it the best you can, you'll be fine and so will the people whose lives you are going to touch. Give them a reason to say "remember that nurse....." It's a coping mechanism that I use all the time. Happy Nurses Week
