Vietnam today.
We were in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Mein City during Liberation Day celebrations in 2011. There have been huge changes from the war years. Many things are the same (drivers and traffic), however, electricity, TV, and internet have changed the country. American cartoon shows appear vastly popular, but strange to hear them in Vietnamese.

Highlights in Ha Noi
Becky had a unplanned met up with a JPAC team.
Visited the Hanoi Hilton, lots of propaganda, but still worth it.
Went to the mausoleum and paid my respects to Uncle Ho. ;-)
Took in a water puppet show.
Had beer, nuts, and dinner with a "former" NVA propaganda officer and his extended family.

Saigon
Spent only one night in the city. Had a brief city tour and dinner all courtesy of a Vietnamese associate of an American friend.

Phan Thiet
This area, along with Nha Trang have become resort cities. Mainly French built, with excellent food, pools, golfing, bars, etc. They draw lots of Europeans during the winter months.

I made inquiries about LZ Betty and Whiskey Mountain, was told no that these are now populated areas, BS. What the inquiry did get us was sets of watchful eyes for rest of our stay.
We traveled by SUV between Phan Thiet and Saigon. Forty years since I had traveled that route. Everyone there tells me the roads we built are still the best in Vietnam, be proud of your contribution! I can attest they are better than anything the Russians build. ;-)
