Subject: The Dingle park (photo)

From the land of the Bluenose..Yo Goldhart. Sir Stanford Fleming Park is situated on the Northwest Arm that stretches down from Halifax Harbour. The park is named after Fleming but known locally as the "Dingle" and was established in thelate 1800's. Fleming was a Scottish engineer who helped build Canada's railroad, designed our first postage stamp the 3 pence beaver and also was the father of mean time. The tower is open in the summer months and affords one a great view of the Arm as well as southwest Halifax.

Have hunted this park for over 25 years and she still produces. A trail runs from here north to Melville Island that was used as a military prison as far back as the War of 1812. Whenever I have company (usually 5 to 15 a year) this is a place I always take them as French buttons, Vickie silver and the lot have been found here. Halifax was founded in 1749 and not far from this park is devil's Hill Battery, York Redoubt and a host of other historic sites with only The Redoubt being off limits to detectorists.
