I have to agree with Maribeth - waiting around is a drag. A three person team will speed up the game considerably, and will result in more teams. Hopefully this will allow more than one division on Tuesday nights, and I'm not interested in playing again if there are not at least two divisions. While I like to play against better players than myself, there's no fun in the game when I know that I'm guaranteed to lose most matches. I won't do it again, and I won't encourage any more new players to try the league if it continues to stack the odds against them.
You make good points about the playoffs, too. If you've worked hard all season and earned your position at the head of the herd, you deserve to walk away the winner. But there is a good reason for the playoffs in some cases. In this league we played each team only once, and everyone has an occassional bad night (some of us more than others!) and may lose to a lesser team. The playoffs can be a chance to redeem a position lost to chance, not lack of skill. Our team took a few nights because we were playing against a better team that was having a bad night. On Thursday, with two divisions, they would have a second chance to even the score. On Tuesday, though, their only chance to get even is in the finals, and they deserve the chance to do so. It's a tough call, as there are good reasons on both sides of the question...
