True, wild cards are rare. Even the non-league players in the area have usually played with some of us at one time or another, and we can usually estimate their skill level fairly well. If anyone was uncomfortable with that, we could always offer to qualify them first - 3 games each of x01 and Cricket - the prospect of such a delay should quell any objections.

But seriously, I think you're right that many players shy away from the tourneys because they fear that it will be a waste of time. If the word gets out that most of them have two-level play, or team matching like this, the turnout could get much better. The midpoint in our league looks to be about 1.8 MPR or so, maybe a bit lower (I haven't looked lately); we should use some such standard for deciding which pool a player draws from.
