Subject: Re: Trayers/ Tray

I have recently returned to live in Connemara where my father was born & I found a message dated July 2001 from Carol Trayers re the Trayers family. (Not many on the Internet in this neck of the woods !) The message has since been deleted but I shall post this in case the search is still active.

My father was Patrick Trayers from Gorumna Island (not Golumna as in your message, although there are various spellings). His mother was Mary Trayers who was born on the adjacent island called Lettermullen, where I now live.

An american called Hal Tray researched the family name some years ago and wrote a small booklet about the history of the family, although I'm not sure how much was based on fact/speculation/poetic licence !! One of my aunts who still lives in the family home on Gorumna may still have a copy. Sadly, most of the older generation with a sound knowledge of the Trayers history are now deceased. Even here it is a fairly unusual name so there is a chance there may be a connection.

If I can be of any further assistance, please let me know.
