I AM RESEARCHING THE HAMSTON FAMILY. John Hamston married Maria Bailey in 1880. Maria's parents were Michael Bailey and Annie Dooley. Michael was born approx. 1829 somewhere in County Clare. He died aged 94 at Melbourne East and is buried at Coburg. Annie Bailey nee Dooley was born approx. 1831 and died aged 93 in 1916 at Carlton and is buried at Coburg. The children of this couple were Maria born 1856 in Co. Clare, who married John Hamston. (These are my husband's ancestors), and Etty (Henrietta) born 1862 at North Melbourne who died in Malvern aged 87 in 1950. Also James born 1859 in North Melbourne and Edward (Baley?Bailey??) born 1864 at Melbourne. They arrived on the Lady Milton on July 17th 1857, they could not read or write. Michael was aged 28, Ann aged 26, and Maria an infant aged 1. They were Roman Catholic. I have traced this family forward somewhat and would be happy to provide any
information that I can.
My husband Christopher "John" Kerr is descended from Irene McCarthy the daughter of Henrietta Hamston and William Charles McCarthy, Henrietta was the daughter of John Hamston and Maria Bailey, Maria being Michael Bailey and Annie Dooley's eldest child.
I would be pleased to hear from you whether we are tracing the same family.
Regards, Cheryl Kerr, RMB 6957 Lillico Rd, Warragul. Vic. 3820
