The Lover in Me

When I was young, it came hard to me
finding love as it was meant to be
I search every neighborhood high and low
she wasn't but in my dreams you know

Days turned to months and months into years
always plenty of fluid to supply my tears
The yearning soul that was all about me
looking for love, in someone I'd see

When you give of yourself so willingly
you hope against hope that it will be
returned in the favor you gave it out
and when it's not all you can do is pout

Sad is the desires that are never fulfilled
desperate crying never stilled
with companionship and joy deeply sought
in total dispair and sadness caught

The older I got, it never seemed to fail
back then how my heart was simply frail
Wanting is better than having you see
having isn't what it's cracked
up to be.

But, I'm older now.
Hine sight anyhow.
I see the Lover in me,
I once thought couldn't be.
