Excellent poem here, icy! I love some of the phrasing that you used and my favorite stanza is this:

"giving over to rising desires
the liquid poisons my mind
putting out the fires...
That were my reason to live"

However, the last lines were very powerful. I like the wording "Lost in the tomorrows of the never to be"

Wow!

But though you slip
into the forgotten tomorrows-
the joyous days we'll never know-
the future loves we'll never pronounce...

Know that somewhere behind you,
that shadow that you claim
is your pain in waiting
in reality is me.

I will be there for you
reflecting the light that you touch
and absorbing the darkness you share.

You will never be lost.

The tomorrows of the never to be
is only what you feel has failed
in this waking moment.

Rest dear friend
Trust life and awaken tomorrow

Tomorrow, you will be found
and your mind fires cooled
to a comforting caress
and your dreams shall be pleasant.

I will not lose you
