A shopping day at the local mart,
Can be a fountain of lessons so true,
A man's soul, revealed in the contents of his cart,
Displaying society's walls, between me and you.
The pompous and aloof, nose high in the air,
Make selections with great taste and unction,
Concealing the presence of a white package there,
Undisputable necessity for certain body functions.
Blue collar hands, awash with coupons and bargains,
Stock up for hungry kids and their mutts,
Slang drips from their tongues, it is their jargon,
Hugging white rolls, a need for their butts!
Finishing our parade, a sweet miss, in latest style,
Low-calorie, gourmet, organically grown,
But rounding out the top of her teetering pile,
Those squeezable rolls, their softness proudly shown!
The cashier is a witness, as humanity passes,
No matter our station in this all-too-brief life,
The great and the lowly, both stoop to wipe asses,
A leveling truth, cutting pride like a knife!!
