There are written rules but i'm sure they are very loosely followed. I have a few albums that only have 1-8 cuss words and have the sticker (but the actual content of what they are saying is not bad), but they have the stickers. I also have a few albums that have about 20 cuss words and no sticker. The record company has the most control over it. Most companies know that half of the people that buy rap records don't have a brain and think that explict lyrics are cool....so most money-hungry companies will do anything 2 get that sticker on there. U also have stuff like Janet Jackson's newest album. Where about 3 of the songs have stuff lil' kids should not hear, but the rest of the album is fine. The 1st edition of her album waz release with no sticker...then around 3 months later, it waz sold with the sticker. On top of that, she re-released the album with a remix (with both regular and edited versions). AND she released the CD/DVD combo with the album plus 2 remixes and a DVD featuring almost every video she has done in the past 10 years (both regular and clean versions...i have the clean version of that). I guess the record company waz gettign some heat about the lyrical content after thousands of kids bought the album...or the company just realized that the album deserved one.
