LL Cool J Gives Off Positive Energy On 10

LL Cool J admits that his label, Def Jam, was not pleased that he embarked on his first solo tour in five years before even finishing his much-anticipated next album.
Due in September, 10 follows up 2000's G.O.A.T., which debuted on The Billboard 200 at No. 1. LL says the album, recorded mostly in Virginia and New York, is finished save for one track.
"If I was them, I'd want the album out first, too," said the seminal rapper, checking in from a tour stop in Chicago. "But, it's like, it can't always be about the economics." The album will be LL's last for Def Jam. Could this be why he didn't listen?
"Um, not really," LL responds. "I wasn't listening that much anyway. No, it isn't that. I just want to go out and touch the people, man, have some fun."
The 34-year-old reports that 10 will contain no profanity. Although he also kept 1990's Mama Said Knock You Out clean, this time there's a different reason. "I didn't feel like 3 or 4 million or 300,000 or 400,000 people needed to hear that right now," he said. "I just think during this time, why not have some positive energy?"
Keeping with that theme, there will be no verbal jabs at Jamie Foxx, Canibus, or anyone else. "Nah, no feuds on the horizon right now, thank God," he said, "so we could just make some good records and keep it at that."
