Subject: Honda Minako Author: Michael Schneider [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 14:20:36 04/03/09 Fri Dear Mr. Wilson - Be assured that you are not alone in your grief; it is shared by many, most of whom, like me, never had the opportunity to meet her. We envy you! I first became aware of her when my brother-in-law brought back from Tokyo the Golden Days record. With great difficulty, because EMI chose not to market her recordings outside of Japan, I tried to follow her career but eventually gave up. Although you produced "Overseas" in LA one could not find it available in this country. Honda Minako did not belong only to Japan, she belonged to the entire world. Her voice, while powerful, has a quality of sweetness and niceness to it, a reflection of her persona. The music I love best is classical and her work beginning with "Kim" makes her loss especially painful to me. She was to the Voice what Jacqueline du Pre was to the Cello, both taken from us far too soon. Fortunately Brian May continues to help keep her memory alive and vibrant by his working on several of the recent compilations of her work. In my own small way I am trying to get a few broadcasters I know to play some of her music here in the U.S. Take heart, you have a lot of company.
