Long ago, the author AnnMcCaffery (Hoping that is spelled right) decided to make p a book series about dragons and dragon riders, naming it (consequently) the Dragonriders of Pern. The planet is threatened by an organism called thread, which can eat through material except rock and metal and can only be destroyed by fire and water. During when the first human colonists settled on Pern, Thread fell. At that point in time they did not have dragons on Pern, but the firelizards, small replicas of dragons, roamed the land. The humans genetically altered the firelizards and Voila! Dragons were born. Since then in the books dragons fight thread by going between to avoid being hit and flaming thread while flying. Now, rping this: If you want to Impress, you go to a weyr, and go to the Hatching Grounds, you'll find other Candidates there who want to impress dragons like yourself; to Impress, you post a description of yourself in ther form of a story or something. Put things like, gender and age and name, personality, features, and maybe some history. The better you write, the better dragon you'll get. Rankings of dragons: Gold, bronze, brown, green, and blue. Golds are only impress by females and bronzes and browns are only Impressed by males, but greens and blues are impressed by bother genders. The OOTS or Weyrwoman will decide what you Impress and write a post on it. From then until you or your dragon dies, you play the dragon-feeding, caring, learning, flying, the whole shebang. Now, for firelizards, you go to the board and do whatever they say you would do to find/impress a firelizard, and it's yours. For Halls: If you want to learn a craft, go there, post, and learn it. For Holds: If you want to live the quiet life, post at the Hold that you are going to live there, and play, ya fool. Does that help? If not, you need to go to your local bookstore and buy the books, starting with DragonsDawn. I've done what I can do.
