"Thank you". She sticks the fluid Iv into a cathedar and puts it down the mare and foals throat. she then stick the IVs in their necks and they became calmer. she waited for the numbing to kick in. she put on the lead and took xrays. the foal had a broken bone. DeAndra guessed that the foal came out with one leg correctly in front and the other bent under. she straightened the lower leg and grabbed casting mold and wraps. she shaved the area with a clipper and then cleansed it and casted it. she put on the oxygen mask to both horses. the foal was awake and breathing more normal. she connected a heart rate and pulse moniter. their systolic was a little below normal. she added protein IVs. then she scanned the mare. due to the foal coming out premi and in an abnormal position, the mare was in pain but had settled nicely do to pain killers. the mare would be fine as soon as she was warmed up from the cold outdoors. she let the mare rest.
she went over to the foal. the foal would have some trouble since it was born to early. the broken leg wasnt an issue, that would heal fine. it was getting this foal on fluids and protein to keep it growing and oxygen to make sure that it could breath. she took the foal and did a catscan. the foals lungs were fully developed, along with every other organ, but hadnt grown fully for birth. she cleaned the foals umbilical cord and let it rest. if it was to live then there was no more to do. she went over to Novalee and patted her shoulder. "the mare is gonna be fine, the foal...well-might n-not make it due to prematurity. If the foal is to survive then weve done all we can. its up to fate now. just pray."
