Subject: Volunteering to Help Collegiate Solar Car Race Team Author: Chris Tolbert (Tolbert) [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 03/ 31/ 16, 8:59am Greetings from Appalachian State University Solar Vehicle Team, I am lead advisor and coach of our solar vehicle team. I have been researching motorhomes and find Wanderlodges to be the best on the road for safety and longevity. I want one for both my college and high school teams. If one were to become available and fall within our small budget I am considering purchasing one in our future. Short term we are currently working out travel arrangements for the American Solar Challenge (ASC) which is going to be an 8 day 1800+ mile road course traveling through 7 states from Brecksville, OH to Hot Springs, SD. This year the ASC is partnering with the National Park Service for their 2016 Centennial. The ASC route will include stage/checkpoints in 9 national parks, historic sites or partner properties throughout the Midwest. We will also compete at the Formula Sun Grand Prix (FSGP 2016) held at Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum, PA. (This is also the qualifying race for the ASC). Obviously the team is considering traveling in a motorhome to these events. Students will be sleeping in our race trailer, tents and vans. I see the motorhome as being quarters for coaches, volunteers and home base for safety. Unfortunately, our school transportation department does not have such vehicles so we are currently seeking sponsors willing to provide such support from July 19 - August 9. In return for sponsorship we would be able and excited to advertise the sponsorship throughout all the events and travel during this 3 week endeavor that includes preparation, competition, and return home. We would also setup advertisements on our website, solar vehicle and during our community outreach events throughout the year.
