I'm sure disassembling the old alternator to smaller pieces worked, but breaking down a new alternator and reassembling it in such cramp quarters is really an excercise in futility. Hey college boy, you do a disservice to a lot of people who read your advice and think its possible only to find they've wasted half a day. There are many do-it-yourselfers who can replace an alternator, a fraction would feel comfortable pulling an axle.
