Is it a 16V or 8V motor? I think the wagons all had 8V motors. I believe that motor was generally shared with Chrysler in the 80s and 90s. Chrysler owned a big chunk of Mitsu then and rebadged various cars and used lots of Mitsu parts. Chrysler did not have it's own V6 motor for its front wheel cars until the larger "cab forward" designs arrived.

It would be worth it to do a little research about those motors.
