Subject: Big Apple to retire Number "36"

Big Apple owner, Vinny Bottino announced that the Big Apple Sports Palace will officially retire the Number "36." Bill Mykytka (#17) and John Styranec (#11) are the only other numbers to be officially retired by Bottino. Mykytka and Styranec starred for the Big Apple Bayonne Dodgers as well as the Big Apple Brotherhood Fastpitch teams back in the 80's and 90's.

The number "36" is being retired because that is the number of Budweisers Tom Shine consumed on Saturday, January 3, 2004. Shine averaged 2.57 beers per hour over a 14 hour period beginning at 12:00pm noon that Saturday afternoon.

The previous record for drinking beers was 35, by Dennis the Bomber. Dennis drank 35 beers during Bill Mykytka's 3 hour bachelor party, held at the Big Apple in February 1996. Dennis also ate 6 plates of food and uttered the words "you f'in bomber" 867 times during that 3 hour period.

When informed about the honor, Shine was speechless. In fact, he was comatose. It turns out Shine was trying to beat his record, but failed by passing out.

Tom Shine's New Year's resolution is to try to talk out of the other side of his mouth. He "swears to God."

Feel free to stop by and view the jerseys hanging from the rafters the next time you are in the Big Apple.
