Ready to go Guy and fellow hoop maniacs. After a day of golf at sultry Pelham CC with Shawn Brennan, Rich Petriccione and Pat Lyons, it feels good to get back inside where it's cool and think of Iona and MAAC basketball when the temperature inside is always cozy. I love covering golf and enjoy the trips to the Masters, U.S. Opens, British Opens and PGAs. It's a great gig. But believe it or not, college basketball has always been my favorite beat. I've been doing Iona, Manhattan and Fordham since 1990 (covering all the Iona games, with a couple of rare exceptions) and have been blessed to deal with great kids and coaches. Of course, it helps when Iona has been so successful under Tim Welsh and Jeff Ruland and Manhattan has had some great runs under Steve Lappas and Fran Fraschilla. The college athletes in the MAAC are great to deal with. No attitudes like some professional golfers, who I won't identify here unless someone really wants to know. Covering college hoops makes the winters seem a lot shorter too. I can't wait for this season to start.
