Dear Setshot:
I don't believe in the cycle theory in college sports. That happens in pro sports when the better teams end up drafting last. What kind of cycle is Duke in? Kentucky? Temple? Arizona? In college hoops, teams continue to win because of good coaching and good players. A coach makes a huge difference. Duke was average until Coach K came along, Manhattan was awful until Lappas, Fraschilla and now Gonzo came along. Iona was average after Valvano and Kennedy until Tim Welsh came along, followed by Ruland. I could go on and on. Fordham wishes there was a cycle theory the way things have been going since Digger Phelps left after one year.
