She was wary. Her surroundings unfamiliar, the sickly sweet scent of the trees clogging her nostrils. Thin tendrils of foggy mist glinted off her silver underbelly, swirling about her dark topcoat as she glided through the shadows, head lowered like the stalking-cats she had so often fought in her past. She kept the wind at her back, alerting her to danger from one direction while her keen eyes focused on the other. A jay was startled from his nest as she passed, and her muscles tensed against her surprise.
She was new here. Having fled her previous pack in fear of - what she thought was - the inevitable, she was left as nothing but a rogue. Her rank all but stripped from her, she still held the ever-challanging glint in her golden eyes. Suddenly, the wind shifted, blowing now at her side. Jerking her head up, she lifted her muzzle to the wind. Wolf. It was a male; she could tell by the musky scent females lacked. He was strong, and immediately she was torn. So badly did she want to fight, defeat another, just to show - if only to herself - that she was still powerful. But she was a newcomer, and didn't know these lands, technically she was invading his territory. He was alone though. No other scents mingled with his on the wind; therefore he could possibly be a rogue like herself. The idea of challanging a loner as strong as she was imagining was both impossibly appealing yet at the same time somewhat disheartening. Her hackles rose as a challange to the wind to bring him to her, let him gaze upon her power. She was Avira, huntress of the night, and she would not allow herself to feel threatened by a mere male. The wind seemed to bow to her will and shifted towards her wish. The mist thickened about her as she stilled, hiding her in its depths so that only her fiery golden eyes could be seen through the fog. She waited.
