Subject: 1st Review. Nsync "Celebrity"

1) Pop
I loved this song from the get go. It was not the typical NSYNC. In all honesty, it was exactly what Marie and I had wanted from them, dance/techno/electronica, whatever you want to call it. I especially like it because it's not about LOVE. I am so sick and tired of hearing about love it's not even funny. I was kinda proud of the song because it had meaning and it wasn't just the same marketed pop. They (or at least Justin and Wade) were speaking on an issue that had a significance in their lives and I have a lot of respect for that. It's very hard to find the words when you are passionate about something but I think they did. I think, even though it was a chart failure, it will gain them more respect, which is more important in the long run.

1a)Beat Box- I love beat boxing, so I thought that was a cute idea LoL

2) Celebrity
I liked this track. I don't love it, but I like it. Honestly, my first reaction was laughter when they said the line "If I didn't have cheese like everyday." OK, the good stuff about this song was it has a fast and new type of beat. It's asking a question I think Marie and I are often asking. Would these teenies like them if they weren't who they are today? It shows they aren't completely subject to having dicks as brains. OK, now the bad. It doesn't flow very well, it's very choppy, which can sometimes work, but it didn't here. Also if I had just heard the song on the radio, I wouldn't have known it was them. Justin sounds eerily like Michael Jackson and the overall sound of the group, sounds like a whole different set of voices. It's weird because I can't tell in certain spots who is saying what. I liked the bridge. That is always my favorite part of a song and there's a good one here. But, biggest problem here is the rhyme scheme.

3) The Game Is Over
I LOVE this song. I think the game sounds in the beginning are so creative. I happen to love video game music (Can you believe they actually market video game music CD's in Japan? LoL just a useless fact). It was cute to use it as a backbeat. JC sounds amazing, in the part where there is saying "How did you think you could do me like that" he just has so much passion. I don't know but it's like he can make you feel it. I can't really see anything bad about this song. It's got a great dance beat, it's somewhat new for them and I think you can do a fast dance or just groove to it depending on how you feel. This is probably my favorite song on the whole album. The electronic guitar is mad phat. JC wrote it and I'm wondering who it was about? Nikki? Bobbi? He's got some unresolved issues with some woman.

4) Girlfriend
OK this song is cool. I don't love it but I enjoy it. I guess that's how to describe it. It's got an urban feel to it. I think the verses are better then the chorus. This is the kind of thing I'd listen to if I was in a hip-hip mood. The bad about this song is the chorus. It's extremely weak. There is no harmony and no substance. If it was a sandwich I'd be like "why did you only give me the bread?" There really isn't much to say about this song. I think it's an either you're in the mood for it or you're not. I hope that that guy from the Neptunes gets that chick.

5) The Two of Us
I like it LoL. There is good and bad here too. I happen to be very very nostalgic so anything that reminds me of childhood or just happy-go-luckyness is good for me. It's cute, I guess that's the best way to describe it. I think it is very very weak, however. The words, rhyme and flow of the song are all off. It's basically a silly kiddie love song. I mean, it's nice to hear something feel good but, I don't know. I'm not feelin' to good with it. I don't mind the song, though, because it gets me thinking of my kiddie days. Odds are I'll be skipping it a lot. It's just not something you wanna sit down and listen to on its own. It's certainly not single material.

6)Gone
OK I enjoyed this song a lot. I obviously hated the fact that it was a Justin solo. I don't think he should be getting all the attention. I think it was JC solo material. As far as how the vocals were, Justin sounds like goat. He strains in a number of places, most noticeably in the bridge. JC would have hit those notes without even breaking a sweat, seriously. The song itself was very strong. It flowed beautifully. The verses were mellow and had a very rhythm and blues feel. Then the mini bridge, as I like to call it, was very memorable and had a sweet sound. The chorus was also very good, it has harmonies and a lasting sound. The bridge was also great, except a certain little goat boy killed it. If they wanted him to do the brunt of the song, fine, but at least let JC do that part, God. Are the people who cast the voices tone deaf?

7)Tell Me, Tell Me...Baby
I LOVE this song. Definitely one of my top favorites. I love the little intro with JC, it's adorable. The sound effects in the beginning are tight too. I can definitely see some really good dancing if they decided to release this one. The words of the song are very forceful and strong. The little mini bridge is very catchy and it reminds me of something. I hate to say it, but it sounds sort of like a BSB song, I just don't know which one. It flows very neatly into the chorus, which has a really good combination of holding out certain notes, like in "don't you know that I can't breathe" and quickly stuttering out others like, "what am I supposed to do." I think that gives the chorus a number of different tones. The bridge is pretty. The back and forth between JC and Justin is well executed. The add lib at the end of the song was good too. This album was kind of weak on that point, but this song almost makes up for it.

8) Up Against The Wall
I LOVE this song. I love dirty things hehe. The song is very smooth. The part where they say "The lights went low/And the disco ball came down/She walked up to me slow/And you know what happens now" is phat. It kind of gets stuck in my head. I like the back beats, they are different and original. Justin actually doesn't sound too bad in this song. It all flows and has a good mix of set rhyme and getting creative with words. I think it was well written and performed. The only part I don't care for in this song is the "mirror mirror on the wall..." section. That was mad cheesy.

9)See Right Through You
I like this song a lot. The beginning music is kinda creepy, but it's good. It sets a good tone for the song. Again, I like where they choose to hold out certain notes. OK here is where you can tell JC is a good actor. He has so much passion in his voice and you really can get into it, kind of feel what he feels. Even though I like where they hold things out in the chorus, it can get annoying very fast. The strength that the song starts with gradually wears off by the end of the song. The lack of add lib really started to make the chorus piss me off, kind of like a Destiny's Child song. However, I think it could be a potential single. It's catchy and is good for dancing.

10) Selfish
I love the intro here! It's so pretty. I'm not much into ballads but I'll give credit where credit is due, it's very pretty. The chorus is very together, and it has a strength in it. The words are very sweet, and the notes are sung with good person. You can almost here the other 3 members of Nsync in this song. Over the course of the album I forgot they were a group, so this was a little reminder. This is a classic type of Nsync song. The bridge is beautiful and JC hits every note perfectly. Seriously, he always has emotion in his voice. He doesn't just sing the notes like I hear with Justin, he sings the song.

11) Just Don't Tell Me That
I adore this song. One of me top favorites. I can't listen to it enough. The beginning is cool, the words are great (as far as pop love songs go). The chorus sounds very familiar, but that doesn't surprise me since the writer wrote one of BSB's current songs. She's very good, I like the song she wrote for them too. This song is somewhat strong on it's own merit. The harmonies in the back of the chorus really give the song a full feeling. See now here is a sandwich that is not just bread. The bridge is unique and the add lib is awesome. It would make a good single.

12) Something Like You
This is a very mellow song, but I like it. It's a beautiful ballad. The words are gorgeous and spiritual, but the harmonica has got to go. The chorus does it for me in this song. It's got pretty harmonies too. There's nothing too special about it, but it's nice to listen to all the same.

13) Do Your Thing
I'll be honest, I didn't even hear the whole thing. After the first 30 seconds I couldn't stand it anymore and I shut it off. It's a sound only dogs should hear.

The album as a whole is very good. I don't like the fact that it's all Justin and JC. The other three have been reduced to background singers and are lost in the shuffle of the music. JC brings all the feelings and emotions to this album. I honestly feel in some cases, his voice would save a song. In every song he sings with conviction. Almost like there is a character and he becomes it. I really like the direction this album took, even though the beats are somewhat redundant at times, for example "The Game is Over" and "Tell Me, Tell Me...Baby" have similar sounds, if you like one you like the other. "Celebrity" was worth the money I paid for it, if I had to grade it I'd give it an A.
