Subject: Who are these Scots

Hellooooo out there. James A. Manson of Glasgow Scotland born 1807 died Malone, NY Oct 5, 1886 was married to Sara Ann MacMurray also of Glasgow, Scotland born 1801 and died Malone, NY Jan 16, 1885
James came to Montreal Canada from Ireland (but no specific place named) in 1835 at age 28 and alone and walked from Montreal to Malone, NY and settled there. He perhaps worked on the railroad. Later he went back to get his wife, Sara Ann. According to story James Manson was here a few years before he returned to bring his wife Ann over. There was a lot of talk in the family that they were Scotch. True, Ann MacMurray’s father was Scotch, but her mother was Lady Finley of Ireland. He had a sister over here. She has notes about them starting to walk from Montreal and Ann played out. James gave his watch to a farmer as security to get a horse for her to ride the rest of the way. He returned the horse the next day. It was told he would walk and carry a bag of salt from the quarry to Ft. Covington and receive 25 cents for it and then pay for the mail from the old country. Ann’s father came and spent his last years here. They had 10 children Mary, Thomas, John, Liza, James, Lucinda, Harriet, Samuel Edward Manson (my grandfather), Jane and Fred Manson. Many of the Manson family are buried in Morningside Cemetery in Malone, Franklin County, New York near the Canadian border. Help!
