Subject: Judge Family

I am looking for information regarding my great grandfather, Bernard Judge. He was born in 1818 (approx.), probably in County Sligo, Leitrim, Rosscommon, or Mayo. Our suspicion is Sligo.

Bernard married a woman named Mary (last name unkown) around 1840-42. They had a daughter Mary around 1843, in Ireland.

Bernard was a tailor, with the British military. We believe he emmigrated to Canada during the Potato Famine (1846-1850).

Our first information regarding Bernard and family, in Canada, starts in the early 1850's. He and a new wife, Jane Hurley, had a son John, in Toronto 1852. They had other children named, Margaret Jane (she and John died in 1867), Nancy (Anne), Catharine, Timothy, Sarah and Bernard (my grandfather).

Bernard Sr. received a military land grant in Fort Erie (Upper Canada) in 1861. The family lived in Fort Erie until 1867 and then moved to Toronto. Bernard died in 1893.

The only other information we have, from Bernard and Jane's marriage, is that Bernard's parents were Tim and Anne Judge. Bernard had very close friends named Garrett and Mary O'Gara. We believe they may have come from the same Irish County and perhaps hometown.

I would appreciate any help anyone could provide.

Sincerely,

Rich Judge
