Has a doctor ever said to you, "Its all in your head?" Or perhaps, "Your fibromyalgia is caused by your depression."

These statements are not true. And in fact have been disproved by scientific medical studies.

If you have heard these words - head for the hills and get yourself another doctor - it is the mark of an uninformed physician who is not educated or knowledgeable about fibromyalgia. Unfortunately this is a common experience for many fibromyalgia patients, and in general physicians are taught little about the condition while in medical school.

Here are two excellent articles with specific scientific evidence...also good to share with family and friends when you are trying to explain your condition.

Fibromyalgia Isn't Depression
The pain of fibromyalgia isn't caused by depression, a new study shows. But clinical depression can deepen a fibromyalgia patient's experience of pain.

Physical Proof of Fibromyalgia
An article from ABC News on the study that shows physical proof of lower blood flow to the brain in fibromyalgia patients and differences in brain function. Note: It looks like ABC's graphics for this article are not loading (its them not you) but it is still a very power article even without them.

A must read for newbies and a good reminder for us "oldies"...okay I'm off of my soapbox now lol...
