Subject: The real deal on Ned/David Orth's departure

Okay, this is the deal. David Orth, who plays Ned, is Canadian. (So was Michael Sinelnikoff, who played Summerlee. Jen O'Dell is American, and the remaining cast are Australian.) The Lost World's majority producers in seasons one and two were Telescene, a Canadian company, and Coote/Hayes, an Australian one, so it was a joint Canadian/Australian production. In season three, Telescene was dissolved due to a multitude of financial problems, so Coote/Hayes has had a change of financial partners. With that change, also came changes in the pre-existing contract for the show with the MEAA (Australian Actors Union). The Lost World Production is now only allowed 1 Canadian and then only for guest cast appearances. That is the reason why Malone is only scheduled to appear in about 7/8 episodes in season three. This actually turned into a difficult battle for the producers with MEAA to hold on to his character at all! TPTB are well aware of the damage the loss of another character could cause, so they will try to keep him, but there's no guarantee. As for my death reference, in the S3 season opener, Ned was lost, presumed killed, and a few episodes into the season he was brought back ~ long story. :) Since David is only due to be in a few more eps this season, I'm not sure how they're going to 'lose' him again, without killing him, unless they send him after Veronica. I don't know whether that might be due to her being dumped by the runaway balloon onto some other place on the plateau, or if they find her and she goes looking for her parents. In real life, Jen O'Dell is doing some other stuff, so Veronica's future is also somewhat up in the air. If the producers can keep them, they will ~ they know how pissed off everyone was (is!) about Summerlee's loss. I've had the pleasure of talking, both by phone and e-mail, to Michael Sinelnikoff, and he's really a sweet man. Unfortunately, I understand they probably will not be bringing Summerlee back, although hope springs eternal ~ I know he really wanted it... In any case, that's the deal for now ~ when I know more, and am free to, I'll post future updates regarding behind the scenes stuff on this board, so look for it! :)
