Author: Koryn and Pheonix
Subject: ~+~+~

+Koryn leaned against the wall of the Hatching Grounds, content to stay in the shadows than be out in the heat. Long periods in the sun had always made her ill-tempered, but there hadn't been much of a problem since most of the trade routes were through forests. Pheonis was lying on his back asleep in the sand, the pink tongue lolling out the side of his mouth as her twitched his leg and rolled onto his side before going back into a deeper sleep. Tying his leash to a sort of outcropping, she walked toward the eggs, trying to keep her mind of the blistering heat that was starting to make her feet hurt from standing so long. She walked around each egg, noting the intricate design of color on each one as she guessed what color might be once it hatched. The Queen Egg was no problem; there was only one with such color, and it was the largest of all the eggs by far. Koryn couldn't help but wonder when it would hatch; would it be the first? The second? The last? The Gold Amenth was watching all of the Candidates warily, eyes whirling hues of red and orange. She was a protective mother, but she had a right. Koryn snapped out of her trance. She'd been staring at the mottled shell of the Queen for what had seemed like hours, but had only truly been a few minutes. She reached out, brushing slender fingers along the shell, a small smile appearing on the femme's face before flitting away. I'm Koryn...I wonder what your name will be... She thought to no one, although she wanted the Queen with such a fervent desire it was almost inbearable, she had willed herself not to aim that high. She was a realist, always wanting to keep her goals safely withing reach. Once those were attained, she'd set new ones, and that was how she would live. It wasn't as if she couldn't dream of soaring high up on the neck of a Gold during Threadfall, riding in the Queen's Wing, using the flamethrower to shoot the Thread right out of the sky, grinning happily as they disappeared back to their Weyr. Again she shook herself out of her enthralled state of mind. Bloody heat's going to make me start hallucinating after a while. She retreated to the sliver of shade that had started to disappear as the sun rose higher in the sky. She grabbed Pheonix's leash and toed him gently with the tip of her sandal. He stood, yawned, and shook the sand out of his fur before giving his full attention to the female. She grinned at the pup+
"So, you want some food boy"
+The dog proceeded to bark a sufficient amount to wake up an entire hold, attempting to jump up into Koryn's arms but falling short, content to walk. She stood up straight, fixing her robes before calling to the others+
"I'm going to the Table if anyone would like to join me you're welcome!"
