Subject: ~*~ entrance ~*~

A tall girl stepped into the Hatching Sands slowly, her blue-violet eyes taking everything in as she looked around once. All the Eggs, the Queen Dragon, the WeyrWoman... She nodded to the Dragon, and entered the Sands further, mincing from foot to foot as the heat of the Sands wouldn't let one keep a foot down for long. She reached up with one hand to brush her chin length brown hair back behind her ears, and then commenced to go up to the largest egg among those there: the Queen Egg. She bit one lip. Oh, aye, it would be marvelous to Impress the Queen... but she was just a poor holder's girl from Southern. Shouldn't she just be glad to be here, at Eastern Weyr, in the north? ((it is, isn't it?)) She felt blood on her tongue, and released her lip, realizing that she had bit hard enough to make it bleed. She licked her lips once, and then gulped hard. What if she didn't Impress? She had had her heart set on it ever since she had been Searched... she hadn't ever thought about what would happen if she didn't Impress! She shook her head quickly. She mustn't consider that - she would cross that when she came to it. She turned back to the Golden Egg, and stared at it, and slowly remembered...

.::. Her parents were there suddenly, and she was back at Southern Hold. Her parents each kissed her, and then said goodbye. She, only being eight then, hadn't wanted them to go, and was screaming for them to stay here with her, and disgusted, her eldest brother had held her back, holding onto her waving fists, stopping her from running after her parents as they rode away a-runner back. Her mother, whom she had loved dearly, turned back once, waved, and then both parents were out of her line of sight. Her brother released Janva, and she fell to the ground sobbing. He rolled his eyes and left, going back to the hold, for while their parents were gone he was in charge. Her youngest brother ran up to Janva once he was gone, and looked at her with sad eyes. He wasn't much older then Janva herself, he just had more self control then her. Catching sight of their eldest sister, he scampered back to the Hold himself. Janva's sister hauled her to her feet and then slapped her - not once, but three times. Janva looked up at her sister mournfully, but at least it had worked: she had stopped crying. Her sister scornfully turned, and then she, too, went back to the hold. .::.

Janva blinked, coming back to the present. Aye, she remembered that evening. That was what had drawn her away from her many siblings, and from the hold...

.::. A fire lizard screeched, and, pumping his wings, flew into the hold, still screeching. It finally was pursuaded to land on the table, and Janva's brother managed to untie the message strapped to it, and the flit vanished between. Janva watched her brother's face anxiously, and suddenly he told them the news. "Father and Mother;s runners both spooked, and threw our parents - they died on their way to the Main Hold. I am to hold here in their place." He said it so mater-of-factly, and Janva burst into tears and ran from the rest of them. She burst outside into the air, and spotted DragonRiders flying there, in the air above her, and she reached an arm up to wave to them. She may have been mistaken, but she always has thought that one waved back. Her tears cleared, and she finally went back to the hold, where her brother was waiting... .::.

Janva came back to herself once more, and sighed deeply. But that was all over with. Her brother could no longer force her into a marriage that she did not wish for, and he couldn't harm her anymore. Thinking of her youngest brother made her smile tentavily - he had been Searched a while back, but he had been by Istan riders. He had Impressed a Green, and he, too, had escaped their eldest brother's harm. The rest of their siblings simply didn't care.

Janva blinked again, and drew herself up. She straightened her shoulders and held up her head. She was a canidate at Eastern Weyr, and she would try her very best to Impress a Dragon, and even if she didn't, she'd stay on here at the Weyr! She stared forecfully at the eggs on the sand, a few at a time, willing one of them to hatch and to come over to her, and for their minds to link, and for her to know that she could never be harmed, and, more importantly, she was loved.
