Author: Gold Dragonet Lilith
Subject: Out of all waiting, only one shall impress the queen....

The queen egg rocks slowly, and Metirth, ever the protective mother, glares at the candidates circling around the egg. She hisses, eyes whirling red, at the girls hoping to be with her daughter for life. The egg is rocking faster now, the shell showing signs of strain but no cracks as of yet. There is a cloak of tension over the whole sands, no sound except the humming of the dragons and fire lizards, and the occassional hiss from Metirth.

Sierian sends an order to Metirth, knowing without it she will never get the gold to move.
"Metirth, back away. Your new daughter needs to impress, and that won't happen if you scare all the girls away."
If they scare easily they should not be here in the first place.
"Metirth, three steps back, and stop hissing."

Metirth glares at Sierian, then takes one step back, the hissing stopping. After a hesitation she takes the other two steps, leaving the queen egg clear.

"Much better, Metirth."
The girl better be worth it.
"You know she will be."

The egg is still for a heart-stopping moment, then the wings of the young gold extend, splitting the shell into two halves. The halves fall away, leaving the golden hatchling standing on the sands. She takes a step away from the egg, not one of the stumbling dragonets but a young queen, sure of herself and her abilities. Her hide glistens wetly in the sun, and she extends her wings to try and dry them. she looks at the semicircle of girls, and starting at one end, looks each one over with critical eyes.

Each girl gets looked over, the hatchling obviously searching for something. After completing the semicircle, but for one girl, she looks back at her mother. The large gold rumbles encouragement to her daughter, who trills a response and then looks again to the sands, and the candidates.

Metirth looks to Conoth, her eyes coloured with love and passion. She goes to his side, and together they watch the impressions continue. This has been a good clutch so far, although the bronze count has been lower than usual. But then, there were still many eggs left to hatch - and people aspiring to be dragonriders. Fortunately, there was hardly ever a shortage of people wishing to impress.

The hatchling walks up to the remaining candidate, eyes red with urgency. She looks over this candidate, and her eyes gain a tinge of blue. This is obviously the girl she has been looking for. the small golden form headbutts the lucky candidate, her manner turning from searching to demanding in an instant. She is much the little queen, but now she knows her purpose. She is complete. She looks up at the candidate, creeling imperiously.

I am Lilith, and you are my lifemate, Rinali. I want food. I am so very hungry.
