The brownrider made a mad dash to the barracks. "Are we late?" he gasped aloud. By nearly a month, came Dalleth's wry retort. ~Oh really?~ Really. No joke. "We didn't mean to sleep in that much. . . Oh, shards, now what?" If dragons could have impish grins on their faces, that was the expression on Dalleth's features. We could learn by ourselves. ~What do you mean, by ourselves?~ We could figure it all out, straps, everything. ~Not between, surely. . .~ Well, we might ask for help on that one. But we obviously need to catch up. ~True. Let's do it!~
Grinning, 'Tai set to work. First, there was the task of the riding straps. "How the devil do these things work?" I don't know... "Ah!" He grinned as suddenly the light dawned. "Got it! Now..."
His brown was full grown, or nearly so, and 'Tai had trouble clambering to the top of Dalleth's neck. As soon as he was strapped in, he gave the brown the thumbs-up.
"Let's go!"
In tacit agreement, Dalleth leapt up, fluttering his wings experimentally before bringing them down in a full sweep, carrying him up into the sky. The brown dipped into a current and rose higher, crowing his triumph to the skies. We've done it, 'Tai! K'lashtai was beyond words as the two skimmed the bottoms of clouds. ~They look real, don't they?~ They are real. ~No, I mean... they look solid...~ Oh, yes, they do. Dalleth gave out a draconic chuckle. But I think we should go back down now, before they miss us. ~Us? They don't know we exist...~ Yes, they do. Besides, if they don't, we must make sure they do. Laughingly, 'Tai agreed, and the two glided down to a rather bumpy landing. K'lashtai leaped off, grinning rather foolishly. "Wow! That was great! But what next?..." And the two searched for another pair that might help them with going between...
