Actually the name Dar is from the Beastmaster series. Just Dar though not his full name though.

Ok what I was thinking is that Dar was a slave (thus the chaffed wrists and brand). This ship he was on didn't really sink, he escaped during a storm. I don't know what kind of people are on Victim's ship and I don't really want to just assume that they keep slaves so....you'll have to let me know. I've got some other stuff planned so you won't know everything.
