Author: Chavala * Sinouth :|: Sh'muel * Lirth
Subject: Southerners' Arrival...

The green and bronze appeared out of between at the same instant, a trick they had perfected to even greater amazement when D'ven had still been with them... no, don't think of that. Sh'muel and Lirth joined the bronze formation, and Chava and Sinouth slipped into the green wing. They tossed each other a quick look of understanding... and then Thread was upon them.

Writhing in tortuous positions, desperate to reach every strand of Thread, flaming every other second... Sinouth reveled in Threadfighting. It showed off all her skills as a green. Bugling her challenge to the ropes of Thread still hurtling from the sky, Sinouth attacked them with a vengeance, flames pouring continuously from her mouth. Suddenly, she blinked into nothingness. After returning to the world of Thread, she told her rider, {{More 'stone! I need more 'stone!}} They darted downwards only long enough to snatch a bag of firestone from a nearby weyrling—was it J'rek? Chava couldn't tell, for Sinouth was back among the Thread before anyone could say 'boo'.

Lirth, meanwhile, looked upon the task as grisly work, but necessary. Probably because of the attitude his rider took; Sh'muel hated Threadfall, hated it worse than he had as a younger weyrling, still infatuated with the idea that they were saving their homeland. True enough, but Sh'muel didn't have time for that kind of idealistic thinking. Nor did he wish to. If he did, he would surely think of D'ven and Prosth. An absolute no-no during Thread. Lirth twisted this way and that, scorching the heavy rain of Thread that threatened to overtake them, outsmart them at every turn. As if Thread had a brain! It was a mindless, faceless enemy, but an enemy nonetheless. Lirth heard Kylith's warning, but a second too late: an errant strand of thread gouged deep into his thigh.

The bronze entered between and emerged again; Sh'muel was only saved by quick reflexes as another piece of Thread hurtled towards his head. As it was, he was struck in the cheek, and his ear was hit as well. At first, he didn't notice, as Lirth began flaming again. But suddenly, a sharp, white-hot pain seared his cheek, and a dull throb came from his ear. ~~Lirth—~~ {{I go!!}} the bronze called as he went between a second time.

This second time when he reemerged, Lirth didn't return to the formation. Sh'muel angrily demanded of him, ~~What are you doing? I can still fight!~~ {{Maybe so, but I am going to get you some numbweed. It will make it easier.}} Lirth almost floated to an easy landing, favoring his right hind leg, as that was the one that had been struck. Sh'muel reluctantly dismounted and headed over to the group of weyrlings. 'Anyone know where some numbweed is?'
