Subject: Mass Threadfighting

Maia told Palth quickly to turn on a hair and char a bit of Thread to dust. The green, one of the best fighters, at least in Maia's biased opinion, then swiveled around to flame another clump. I am growing...slightly tired, she said. Maia grimaced, remembering how usually greens only flew half Fall. Ready to go back, love? Palth paused and shivered delicately while the rock grated against her teeth, chewing firestone. Not quite ready. Soon another Thread pile was blackdust, and Palth wearily crunched more of the hard, cumbersome rock. Though soon. As more and more clumps of Thread fell prey to the ribbons of flame that Palth shot out, Maia became slightly agitated at her green's slowing reflexes. All right, Palth, that's enough. We're going back to Benden. Palth sighed, accepting the inevitable, and flickered between, to the main Weyr.

Noel patted Karath's side, for the green was heaving steadily. "Sure you aren't ready?" Noel asked, but she was really having too much fun on Karath's back blasting the deadly spores to leave. Nah, I'm good for a bit longer. "If you're sure..." Noel took a breath of air quickly, and wondered mentally when Karath would rise. It was just a curious question, but she was interested to experience a real flight. Her friends who had already flown had assured her it was quite, quite interesting. She hoped they proved right. I'm certain they will, Karath rumbled approvingly, hitting another tendril of silver quickly.

Henrya, on top of Quiyath's small back, faced her first Threadfall barely out of Weyrlinghood, but held firm and launched some of the phosphine-bearing rock into her green's mouth. Crunching meditatively, Quiyath belched it out at a passing clump, and Henrya cheered. Way to go, Qui! Quiyath fairly preened and hit another. Well, I am talented. Henrya laughed, her fear of Threadfighting gone, but her excitement, palpable, remained, steady as always.

K'ten, atop his brown, Tyenth, faced the Fall with a stolid acceptance. Let's do it, Tyenth. Tyenth rumbled approvingly and the brown flew into the air, into his wing, dodging and flaming. It slowly but steadily caught K'ten up in its pattern, the other dragons near, to be avoided when flaming, the Thread, falling close, and his mental commands to Tyenth on when to shoot and when to rein back and let a green or another brown or such get at it. In any case, you're doing wonderfully, K'ten told Tyenth. Tyenth smiled draconically before burning another. You really think so? K'ten grinned back. "A'course, ya big lump!"

T'liv turned, smiled when he saw Emer, then had to -reluctantly- turn his eyes away from his weyrmate's face and back to Threadfighting. "C'mon, Nikath. Follow your position in the wing and start flaming!" Nikath was happy to oblige, and eagerly hit clump after clump with massive outlets of fiery steam from his bowels. "Feeling at all tired? I noticed some greens are starting to leave..." I'm fine. Greens are not meant to last the whole Fall. I am. T'liv grinned broadly. "Well then, let's not let our reputation down, eh? Thinking of a nice nook in High Reaches soon?" Where it's cold? Not likely. But having a not-crowded Weyr with weyrlings underfoot and my weyrmate close by, yes.

Inumé led her wing, then noticed that she was out of firestone. "Let's land, Shenth." The blue dragon eased out of the sky and landed. "Quick! We need firestone!"

The young queenrider from Kylith's latest hatching responded and brought forth a sack of the rock. "Here you go."

"Thanks," Inumé replied brusquely. "I'm off." And with that the pair went back to flaming Thread.

T'ben, on his bronze, turned and caught a piece of Thread lightly on his cheek. Wincing, he directed Rekoth between, and the bronze quickly complied, making a short hop, then out again. Better now? "Yes, much, and thanks, Rek." No problem, the bronze intoned, hitting another clump squarely in the center. I think that's good, T'ben thought. Some greens are going out, but that's only to be expected. Most are staying, especially the bronzes. That's quite good, though I don't see many queenriders...he noticed Kalya on the ground and sighed. She wasn't old enough, he supposed. They'd best hope for ground crews...
