Subject: Everybody returning...

A'dor and Kebeth sighed audibly as Fall ended. «We missed it,» came Kebeth's mindvoice. «Are you disappointed in me, 'Dor?» A'dor leaned over and patted his bronze's supple flank. «Of course not. None of the other Honshu weyrlings did, so at least we're not alone.» The bronze nodded, then jerked his head in an obvious request that A'dor mount. «I am ready for home,» Kebeth announced. A'dor nodded his agreement and climbed into place on his lifemate's broad, sinewy neck. Kebeth took off, sweeping the ash-laden air with majestic swishings of his wings. He rose to a fair height, then, with an odd eagerness, entered between.

Dalleth suddenly stopped flaming. «It is done,» he told his rider. «It is?» K'lashtai asked. «Then let's leave...» The two deaths, J'el and Hilath, and T'run and Adath, had affected the brownrider more than he'd let his cheery soul admit. Dalleth gave his rider tacit agreement, then asked, «To Xanadu, then?» K'lashtai was puzzled. «Where else?» «A green is rising. Aghath, lifemate of Alara,» Dalleth replied. «Oh... I see. You don't want to try and catch her?» «I am too exhausted, my rider. Are you disappointed with me?» «No... I just thought dragons were supposed to be so randy...» «Don't even go there.» With that, Dalleth blinked between.

Faieth finished flaming a last clump, sending a vindictive flicker of flame after the remnants of Thread. «And don't think of returning! At least not for a while. We dragons need our rest.» Slenya smiled slightly, then asked, «So... we're finished?» «Yes.» «Faieth? What goes on at Ista?» «Nothing... they are all gone.» «You know what I mean. Is that... impostor.. is she taking over Ralek's duties?» «Apparently... but the other Weyrleaders approved her. Why should you resent the position? Ista needs leadership.» «Ralek's!» «Rider mine, you are tired, and confused. I will return us to our weyr. There you shall rest.» Faieth left no time for Slenya to protest, but entered between without further hesitation.

«J'lar. It is nearly time to teach the weyrlings... you know? And Threadfall is over, Kylith says it is so.» J'lar cocked his head at his bronze, slightly surprised. «Indeed? Good. It was a tough Fall... I could sure use a good nap.» «You shall get one then. To Fort?» 'Where else...' In his exhaustion, J'lar forgot about the mindlink and fell into the habit of communicating verbally. Flagenth nodded and dipped out of the now dispersed formation before blinking out.

As the green wing dissolved, Chavala stared down at the bronzes below. «Sinouth? Are he and Lirth all right?» «Of course. Sh'muel has a small score, but it is not serious. D'v—Daven would envy him if he knew... it will make him look dashing.» «He IS dashing.» «Well, you know what I mean.» Chava didn't bother replying as the green dived to the bronzes' level. 'Sh'mueli?' she called. From among the swerving bronze masses, Lirth emerged, bearing a slightly dazed Sh'muel. 'I'm here... are you hurt?' 'Of course not,' came Chava's crisp reply. 'But you are. Let's get you home.' Neither rider nor dragon protested; Lirth cast a tired, draconic smile before winking between, and was followed by Chava and Sinouth, all headed for the comforting warmth of Southern Weyr, away from the chilling sorrow that permeated the place where Thread had fallen, and taken lives.
