mine did the same thing. turned out to be the starter ring gear spinning on the clutch hub. i took an old primary cover and cut a big notch out of the front so i could see what was going on. thats what it was. i pulled the clutch hub and knurled it, heated the ring gear red hot and pressed it back on. been good ever since
