Okay, that's a glitch with the game, but there is one way to get rid of it:

Buy another big bicks hammer from the weapons vender in queens, Get the first big bucks hammer to lvl 5, and the weapon with abs up and poor to lvl 5 also. Now, synth big bucks hammer into the poor/abs up weapon (or vice versa) and before lvling that weapon up again, synth it into the second big bucks hammer you bought. Now you are free to upgrade without losing any abilities. Hope this helped! Good luck
