Let me ask a question, if we scrap the 2nd Team what will the rest of the senior squad members do when they are not in the 1st team squad?

U are obviously below the age of 21 years or your opinion would be a little pointless.

Yes I agree, the level you play is very high. But how many games at U21 level do you play, and will it fill your season…. Is it fair to say your games are played mid-week?

Lack of opportunity… MMmmm, I know the players that went to play at the Academy, and also know these players did not stick around long enough to make an impression. Remember Divison 1 standards are far higher than U21’s, is it the case you wish to become a “Big fish in a small pond” rather than “A small fish in a large Bedwas pond”.?

Standards cannot be that bad, as demonstrated in Bedwas’ defeat over Caerphilly last Wednesday. Yes Cearphilly had U21’s playing as well as first team players, but of the Bedwas players only two of the starting line up included Bedwas first team player’s from the previous week’s first team squad that played Whitland. The remainder of the team started for the 2nd’s away at St Julians.

Remember Bedwas will never become a Cardiff / Llanelli, nor would it wish to be and the area would not be able to supply enough quality players to run two U21’s. Quality is hard enough with one U21 team in the area….

Bedwas Athletic have regular Saturday fixtures, and as most of the U21’s are registered Bedwas RFC players, there is nothing stopping you playing for Bedwas when the U21’s have no Saturday fixture. This will enable such keen rugby players to have the best of both worlds and be looked at by both parties. Remember, how many U21’s will have the talent to play full premiership rugby at Caerphilly? Answer very few.
