Subject: Where Sailors Go

Date Posted: 01:50:24 09/30/01 Sun

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With canvas spread we look ahead,
To gauge these heavy seas,
We scan for wrecks or other's decks,
As well as rocks and trees.

This coastal run is often fun,
Though now we sail in fear,
Our boards of teak have sprung a leak,
Our pumps are in arrear.

And now they say we've lost our way,
From weeks of grayish mist,
More shocking yet the cargo's wet,
We've taken on a list.

From high aloft the lookout scoffed,
"I see a privateer,
He's close at bay though I would say,
He'll never catch us here!"

But in an hour the lads turned sour,
Our pirate friend was close
We're in despair for good repair,
It looks as though we're toast.

This unarmed scow will serve us now,
Onto these heathen filth,
We're cut like grass by cannon blast,
A keg of blood hath spilth.

That wretched horde now swarms aboard,
I am the last to die,
My brother draws, but then takes pause,
To look me in the eye...

"MY GOD!" says he, "The irony,
of YOU upon this ship!
I will not sin by killing kin,
I'll hang by my own whip!"

"My wounds are grave, so do not save,
my life." I say in pain.
"I'm hot as hell and I'll do well,
to let my lifeblood drain."

As he comes near I see a tear,
(That's rare in men this tough),
He says to me, "It sad to see,
we were not close enough."

"Oh had I known that you had grown,
into a sailing man...
I beg to say, I'd known today,
which ship you were a hand."

"Please fly away, just LEAVE!" I say,
"There's nothing precious here.
The holds are filled with rocks to build,
a lighthouse and a pier."

Around us swum the sharks that come,
Attracted by the blood,
My brother's dive did bring alive,
A crimson foamy flood.

Then I passed on to Great Beyond,
Where mermaids swim and thrive,
It's sailor's bliss, there's no remiss,
Though some say it's a dive.
