The district attorney who prosecuted Sean "P. Diddy" Combs on gun possession and bribery charges has a new enemy.

Matthew Bogdanos, a Marine Reserve lieutenant colonel who has served the country for 23 years, is leaving New York on October 17 to fight in the war against terrorism.

"I don't have the luxury to say whether I am happy or sad," Bogdanos said Thursday (October 11). "The emotion is it's my duty. How can I complain about doing my job? If you are going to complain when it's crunch time, get another job. It's like training for a fight and then on fight night, you say, 'Gee, I don't want to fight.' "

Bogdanos could not discuss what he will be doing for the Marines.

"No one is happy about war, least of all the military," he said. "People tend to forget that when there is a war the military are the people that tend to be in harm's way."

Bogdanos unsuccessfully prosecuted Combs in a six-week trial this year in which the rapper and his protégé Jamal "Shyne" Barrow faced charges stemming from a 1999 nightclub shooting. Combs was acquitted of all charges in March, while Shyne was found guilty of assault, reckless endangerment and gun possession (see "Puffy Combs Acquitted; Shyne Guilty Of Assault, Gun Possession") and is serving a 10-year prison sentence.
