My Aunt who is still alive sings this song. A few week ago I saw a folk song site (right now I can't find it) but they had the words and the notes for this song. I believe they listed it as a "folk tune"

Hope that helps...I am trying to find some additional information about this song but so far no luck. The time frame you mentioned here is about right for her.
