You probably have satisfied your curiosity regarding the lyrics to "The Man That Came Around" (The Man that Comes Around). But in case not, here they are as I remember them.

My recording was made in the late 1930s. "The Man That Came Around" Tommy Tucker Time, Vacalion Records/Brunswick Record Corporation of N.Y. Vocal by Kerwin Somerville.Record #5189 (25502) & (25503). "Honestly" on the flip side.

It consisted of chorus and several verses , which I remember as follows:

Chorus
“There’s a man that comes to our house every single day,
Papa comes home and the Man Goes Away
Papa does the work and Momma gets the pay
And the man comes around when Papa goes away.”

Three verses describe the coming and goings of the iceman , trash man, and milkman:

Verses
The man that comes to our house
He’s very nice
He comes in the summer time to bring Momma ice.
But the teeny, weeny piece soon melts away,
And he has to come back again
Later in the day.

The man that comes to our house
He comes to take the trash
In a little white jacket,
And a little black moustache
It’s all very strange but it always seemed to me,
He’s a little more familiar
Than the trash man ought to be.

The man that comes to our house
He comes to bring the milk.
He walks right in the kitchen
And he talks us to the silk
I always have to hold his horsey
Out by the gate
‘Cause he stays so awful long
The horse don’t wanna wait .

It then concluded something like:

When I grow up
I don’t want to be a doctor or a lawyer
With an office downtown
No! I’d rather be
Just the Man Who Comes around!
