Subject: Article Review

The article is titled, "Reaching Today's Students with Multimedia and HyperStudio" from Technology and Learning Magazine located at http://www.techlearning.com.

It describes the advantages and uses for Hyperstudio in the classroom. Because the author works in a school with few student computers, the article discusses the advantages of using Hyperstudio as a teacher tool: as a visual accompanyment to teacher directed lessons, as a way of reaching auditory and visual learners, the flexibility of hyperstudio to format lessons both in the linear fashion or in a dynamic exploratory format.

The author argues that Hyperstudio helps the teacher use many technologies within the scope of creating stacks. ie. quicktime movies, computers, scanners et.al. And as a student tool, it allows students to create their own projects or interact with the instructors stacks in a variety of ways.

The downside of using Hyperstudio as a teacher tool is the time consumed in making stacks prior to lessons. Editting video, music, finding clip art and creating buttons are all time consuming tasks. The upside, however, is that once created they can be stored and reused or modified as needed.
