Subject: Nature in context

Hi, I hope you still check ths forum from time to time... I am a student in anthropology, and my topic is the creation of a collective image of nature by urbanites depending on a given cultural, artistic, historcal, political context. I am trying to work on a comparison between France and the United States, but I am interested in any example of perception of nature in the world.
I figured land art and land artists - if that's the proper term - could be an interesting way of getting into the topic, but I don't know enough about it to judge the relevance of the idea.

What do you think about it? Do you think nature is used in art differently depending on the cultural background of the artist, and not only his personal aesthetic choices? What could you say about your own relationship to nature? Why did you choose land art and not painting or sculpture? Are photographs a proper way of looking at you art? Do you know artists from different nationalities? Do you know what they have to say about nature? Can you think of anybody I could contact?

Thank you,

Sandrine
