We are a group of voluntaries of the whose headquarters are in Grassano (Italy).
For some months we have
been trying to save from abandonment a natural, historical and
archeological place. We are talking about the Plateau of St. Antonio
abate in Grottole (Italy) where, in a wild and enchanting landscape,
the ancient ruins of the fortified village of Altojanni and the
medieval St. Antonio abate�s Sanctuary are.
Unfortunately the ancient
Sanctuary is about to fall down. Here�s why we decided to do something
to save it from fall. Thanks to our good will we installed some road
signals along the road leading to the Sanctuary, we cleaned the plateau
from rubbish and we opened the Sanctuary to visitors. We created an
Internet site, you can visit at the address
http://spazioweb.inwind.it/grottole/a_inglese/sanctuary.htm ,where we
tell the history of the Sanctuary and the plateau in general. So we do
ask you to help us to save this place from abandon making aware the
others about our battle.
Once again All we want is make public opinion more and more aware of
the issue before the sanctuary falls down forever. Time is slipping by
and we must hurry up.
So we do invite you to send, by email, a request of help of yours to
newspapers, art sites, ministers, people you know, etc�, in which you
invite all of them to support our battle. But above all and for the
same reason we invite you to write the only two newspapers we have in
the Basilicata region: La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno (email:
gmezzogiorno@tin.it ) and La nuova Basilicata (email:
nuovabas@tin.it ).
Don�t you think we are doing the right thing for the future of our
region? We�ve got two possibilities in front of us: doing something
before it�s too late or closing our eyes and allowing another piece of
our history to disappear.
From now on, the destiny of the sanctuary will also depend on you�
